What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.  RSS aggregates updates that are made to the content within a community when one is subscribed to an RSS feed.  It is an easy method to identify updates about blogs, forums, media galleries and wikis without having to visit each application. 

How can I use an RSS feed?

As a group member, if you wish to see updates to content within your group, the APAN RSS feed aggregates and organizes this information for you.  You can select to see updates for your entire group, or for individual group applications.

How do I create an RSS feed for a blog, wiki, forum or media gallery?

Blog RSS Feeds

  1. Go to the blog.
  2. Look for the gear in the upper right corner, click the gear.
  3. Select RSS.
  4. Select Subscribe.
  5. Go to the bookmark that was created when you wish to see the updates.

Forum RSS Feeds

  1. Go to the forum.
  2. Look for the gear in the upper right corner, click the gear.
  3. Select RSS.
  4. Select Subscribe.
  5. Go to the bookmark that was created when you wish to see the updates.

Media Gallery RSS Feeds

  1. Go to the media gallery.
  2. Look for the gear in the upper right corner, click the gear.
  3. Select RSS.
  4. Select Subscribe.
  5. Go to the bookmark that was created when you wish to see the updates.

Wiki RSS Feeds

  1. Go to the wiki.
  2. In the browser of the wiki page, type   /rss   at the end of the URL.
  3. The page will populate with the RSS data.
  4. Select Subscribe.
  5. Go to the bookmark that was created when you wish to see the updates.

How do I create an RSS feed for my entire group application?

  1. Go to your group’s homepage.
  2. In the browser of your group’s home page, type   /rss   at the end of the URL.
  3. The page will populate with the RSS data.
  4. Select Subscribe.
  5. Go to the bookmark that was created when you wish to see the updates.

How do I create an RSS feed for all blogs, forums, wiki’s or media galleries?


All Blog RSS Feeds

  1. As a group owner, go to your primary blog homepage.
  2. Select Edit Page.
  3. Add the APAN – Blog Links widget.
  4. Click the pencil to configure the widget.  A Configure APAN – Blog Links page appears.
  5. Enable the RSS feature.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Save Page.
  8. You’ll see the RSS link appears under options.

All Forum RSS Feeds

  1. As a group owner, go to your primary forum homepage.
  2. Select Edit Page.
  3. Add the APAN – Forum Links widget.
  4. Click the pencil to configure the widget.  A configure APAN – Forum page appears.
  5. Enable the RSS feature.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Save Page.
  8. You’ll see the RSS link appears under options.

All Media Gallery RSS Feeds

  1. As a group owner, go to your primary media gallery homepage.
  2. Select Edit Page.
  3. Add the APAN – Media Gallery – File List widget.
  4. Click the pencil to configure the widget.  A configure APAN – Media Gallery – File List page appears.
  5. Enable the RSS feature.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Save Page.
  8. You’ll see the RSS link appears under options.

All Wiki RSS Feeds

  1. Go to your primary wiki homepage.
  2. At the end of this page’s URL, type   /rss 
  3. The page will populate with the RSS data.
  4. Select Subscribe.
  5. Go to the bookmark that was created when you wish to see the updates.

Can I subscribe to the Microsoft Outlook option within the RSS feed service?

APAN only supports the RSS feed.  You’ll have to check with your system administrator to identify how to receive feeds within your email client.  This is due to firewalls and individual computer configurations on the computer you are using.
