Create Subgroup
[toc]
Create Subgroup from Home Page
You can create a subgroup from a group home page if you are a group owner.
From a group home page, click
New
. The selection drop-down list appears.
Select
Create a Sub-Group
. The Create a Group page appears. (The following capture does not display the entire page.)
Fill in the following fields for the forum:
Name
- Specify the name, (the unique identifier to anyone who can see the group in any Group List widget).
Description
- Optionally, enter a description of the group that is shown on all group pages and optionally in any group list widget.
Group privacy
- Choose the
group type
based on the type of content to be included in this group. Carefully consider what this should be; after you create the group, you can change this group type, but
doing so will reset
any
custom permissions that were set up in each application and apply the
default
permissions for the built-in group type.
This includes roles added as group members.
Changing group type is not something Telligent recommends.
Parent group
- Leave the parent group used by default (the current group where you're creating the subgroup) or start typing a different group name. If you choose Site Root, the group is created at the top level. After a group is created, only site administrators have the permission to
move a group
to a different parent group.
Enable group status updates
- Enables messages for this group to be displayed in the Activity Story Stream.
Click
Create
. The Set up your group window appears.
Select from these options and/or execute the actions:
Group Avatar
- To add a custom avatar image to the subgroup, click
Upload a photo
.
Navigate to the desired avatar file. As a guideline, try to use a 600px by 600px (or larger) image.
Click
Open
.
Applications
- Select the check box for any content you want the subgroup to contain. Each application check box you select creates the appropriate application (such as for Support, a forum) and templates basic widgets onto the application home page.
Click
Set up
. The "group is set up" message appears.
Click
View the group
.
Create a subgroup from the Manage Sub-groups panel
Navigate to the group where you wish to add a subgroup.
Mouse over
Management.
Click
Manage Group
. The Manage Group panel appears.
Click
Manage Sub-groups
. The Manage Sub-groups panel appears.
Click
Add Sub-group
. The Add Sub-group panel appears.
Name
- Specify the name, (the unique identifier to anyone who can see the group in any Group List widget).
Description
- Optionally, change the description of the group that is shown on all group pages and optionally in any group list widget.
Group privacy
- Choose the group type based on the type of content to be included in this group. Subsequently changing the group type
will reset
any
custom permissions that were set up in each application and apply the
default
