2012 OSD Minerva Meeting

September 13-14, 2012
Hilton Arlington
950 North Stafford Street
Arlington, VA 22203

Registration for the 2012 Minerva Meeting is officially open!  The event will convene Minerva grant awardees, senior Department of Defense personnel, and other distinguished representatives from academic professional associations and national security communities of interest to freely discuss ongoing projects and issues of interest to national security strategists.

EVENT SCHEDULE:

Panels of scholars, defense policy makers, and military operations personnel will meet throughout the two-day conference, reporting on on-going research and reflecting on the impact of the Minerva initiative on social science fields as well as its potential contribution toward developing a better understanding of the social, political, and cultural context of strategically important regions of the world.

The morning of September 13 will consist of plenary lectures and panels of interest to all participants.  During the afternoon of September 13 and the morning of September 14, the audience of approximately 150 academics and policymakers will divide into three breakout groups.  These groups will convene for four separate sessions.  In each session, panels will discuss ongoing research on one of the chosen Minerva grant topics.  Each of these panels will consist of two academic Minerva scholars discussing their research findings to date, complemented by perspectives and feedback from a senior Department of Defense policymaker and operator.   The afternoon of September 14 will include several joint sessions of broad interest to all participants and concludes with a session focused on academically-focused discussion for the Minerva academic community.

Breakout Groups:
Track A: Belief Formation and Movements for Change
Track B: Models of Societal Resilience and Change
Track C: Theories of Power and Deterrence
