Abstract:
Given the personalistic nature of Putin's regime, those who interpret the world to him and define the options at his disposal have considerable influence. Mark Galeotti presents the findings of in-depth research into the views, policy traction and prospects of the two crucial figures in Putin's security team: Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Security Council Secretary - and de facto National Security Adviser - Nikolai Patrushev.
