Red Diamond Winter 2023 Edition

This issue of Red Diamond tackles several issues related to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and also looks at how China, our pacing threat, is watching and learning. The Take Note article reminds and informs readers of the many products and services TRADOC G-2 offers to CTCs, COEs, and home station training to prepare our soldiers to face any threat.

This issue contains an article that provides details on our process to inform the Army about Russian and Ukrainian actions in the Putin’s “Special Military Operation.” We have also written several papers based on Key Assumptions about Russia prior to the invasion of Ukraine that analyze if those assumptions are, or are not, proving to be valid as we observe a real-life application. Another article looks at whether Russia is adhering to its own doctrine. From the Ukrainian perspective, we share information about command and control and the role of smartphones and the influence of government policy. We also examine the role of a developing sense of Ukrainian nationalism, and how understanding the history of the people of Ukraine con contribute to deeper understanding of how they are fighting in this war.
