Erbin Qiu, University of California San Diego | Thermally synchronized spiking nano-oscillators

Synchronization is ubiquitous in nature or engineered systems. This research highlights the unique dynamic synchronization characteristics of spiking oscillators in radical contrast with harmonic oscillators. Commonly a large variety of harmonic oscillators phase and frequency synchronize. On the other hand, in certain parameter ranges, spiking oscillators synchronize stochastically. The unusual random synchronization between integer synchronization modes provides the basis for the hardware-level implementation of novel computational paradigms such as neuromorphic and stochastic computing.
