On behalf of the 63d RD,

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”  ― Bill Keane

Have you ever put your shorts on backwards or shirt inside out and then didn’t discover it until much later in the day? Then you look around to see if anyone noticed that your pants were backwards or saw the tag on the back of your shirt hanging out for all to see. Life is like that sometimes. It feels wrong, but you can’t discover what it is right away. Then when you do discover what was wrong you wonder if anyone noticed and didn’t bother to tell you.

We can dress ourselves up and feel like we are wearing rags on the inside or wear rags on the outside and walk with dignity as though we owned the world. Our eyes can’t lie. It has been said that our eyes are windows to our soul. Our face can put on smile, but our eyes reveal if we are happy or sad. Nonverbal language speaks louder than a shout from a mountain top echoing in the lower valley. The point is this: how we see ourselves and those around us, and how we are seen by others effects how we walk throughout our day.

Gifts or days are not always as we expect them to be, but just because you don’t get what you want today, or the day did not go the way you wanted it to doesn’t mean that tomorrow will be the same. Tomorrow is a new day, a new present, and a new mystery to be experienced. Check your shirt to make sure it is not inside out, wear something that makes you feel great on the inside, and allow your heart to experience joy.

Proverbs 17:22 says, "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." (HCSB)

My prayer for you today: Lord help us to reconcile our outside person with our inside person. Teach us how to experience joy in our every life in the little things as well in the big. Allow us to see beyond what is not so important and embrace what we need in this life to live more fully. Amen. (HCSB)
