Hello Everyone, This is Chaplain Sung Kim. I am Deputy CMD CH in the 63d Readiness Division. I pray you are well.

I need to change my focus from getting a blessing, to being a blessing if I am going to cultivate a grateful heart during this holiday season. God wants you to take the blessings you have received and share them with others who you encounter, especially those who are in need.

Proverbs 22:9 says, “He who is generous will be blessed, For he gives home of his food to the poor.”

Jack Hyles says that the greatest blessing the whole world is being a blessing.

We need to move from getting all the blessings we can to being a blessing. If you had all the money a person could spend, it would not bring purpose and meaning into your life. In order for there to be meaning and direction in your life, your life needs to be used by your God based on your faith. Only when you invest your life in the lives of other people do you find purpose. There is no fulfillment in self-centered living. We find life by giving ours away. Give your life to your God and live for others, and life will be returned to you a hundred fold.

Feeling sorry for yourself? Go visit people in the nursing homes and hospitals. Volunteer at the Developmental Center. It won’t be long until you find yourself being very grateful for how God has blessed you.

Mother Theresa tells the story of ministering to an old woman dying from starvation: “One evening we went out, and we picked up four people from the street. And one of them was in a most terrible condition. So I did for her all that my love could do. I put her in bed, and there was such a beautiful smile on her face. She took hold of my hand as she said two words only: ‘Thank you.’ Then she died. And I asked: ‘What would I say if I were in her place?’ I would have said, ‘I am hungry, I am dying, I am in pain,’ or something. But she gave me much more; she gave me her grateful love. And she died with a smile on her face. That is the way I want to die, regardless of my circumstances — not with whining and whimpering, not with complaining and bitterness of spirit, but with gratitude on my lips.

Blessings flow from your God based on your faith, but they should never stop with us. They come to us, and then flow through us.

What this really means is to help someone without constant complaining about our “precious time” being used up, or judging who we have been asked to help, or just being mad in our spirit.

Sharing your blessings with others might mean giving money to an organization that helps orphans receive good housing and education. It might mean helping a homeless person get a meal. It could even be a bit closer to home, such as helping a friend or family member who’s going through a hard time during COVID-19.

Today’s Prayer: "Lord, we thank you that as your masterpiece, you have created us to bless others and be a blessing. Today, we make a fresh commitment to allow you to work through us. Amen."

Have a blessed day! Blood and Fire!
