Under WRAIR Policy 35, Research Integrity and Misconduct training must be completed by all research personnel at WRAIR and its Forward Directorates.

What does the training cover?

  • The training covers the definitions of research misconduct and research integrity, how to report suspected misconduct, and other key aspects of ensuring the integrity of scientific research.

When is it required?

  • Within 6 months of the start of the  appointment of new research personnel, and at least once every 3 years for all research personnel.

How is the training accessed?

  • WRAIR's Research Ethics and Integrity (REI) team is offering virtual trainings on the following dates:

    • WRAIR Forest Glen / USAMRD-West: Wednesday, 29 March 2023, 1300-1400 EDT (UTC-04) / 1000-1100 PDT (UTC-07)

    • USAMD-AFRIMS: Friday, 28 April 2023, 0800-0900 Thailand Standard Time (UTC+07) (Thursday, 27 April 2023, 2100-2200 EDT [UTC-04])

    • USAMRD-Africa / USAMRD-Georgia: Rescheduled, new training date TBD

Who counts as "research personnel"?

  • "Research personnel" includes investigators, scientists, research staff, and research support (including regulatory, statistical, and technical support).
  • Personnel engaged in activities including but not limited to the following should complete this training:
    • Creating or conducting laboratory, clinical, or field research, including designing studies, performing assays or tests, collecting data, or analyzing data;
    • Working as research staff or as a research coordinator in clinical, laboratory, or field settings;
    • Using quantitative or statistical tools for modeling, analysis, or research design purposes;
    • Performing activities directly contributing to research, such as veterinary pathology, statistics, clinical quality control, drafting research protocols or project plans, or other related tasks;
    • Managing research or research staff;
    • Performing technical activities to oversee or support research ,such as regulatory oversight of human or animal research, protocol management, or other scientific oversight.
  • Personnel who work only in general support capacities such as the S-shops or general administration are not required to complete this training.

How will the training be tracked and recorded?

  • Attendance will be tracked during the virtual training events. For personnel who are unable to attend the scheduled trainings due to a conflict, instructions for viewing a video recording of a live training will be provided on this page at a later time.
