Abstract

This panel will examine the key themes of Russian strategic and military culture, and the extent to which they may be distinct. The lens of strategic culture can help to mitigate mirror imaging in decision making by contextualising the activity of a state by highlighting historical experiences, distinctive political and institutional relationships and different strategic dilemmas the better to understand how that state's leadership may respond in times of crisis. This panel will examine a range of aspects of Russian strategic culture and features of Russian military culture.
