Professor Geoffrey Till
Emeritus Professor of Maritime Studies at King's College, London
Dudley W. Knox Chair for Naval History and Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College
Once Dean of Academic Studies at the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College, Geoffrey Till is Emeritus Professor of Maritime Studies at King’s College London and Chairman of the Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy Studies. Since 2009 he has also been a Visiting Professor and Senior Research Fellow and Advisor at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore. He is also adjunct Professor at the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, Hainan China. He now holds the Dudley W. Knox Chair for Naval History and Strategy at the US Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. His Understanding Victory: Naval Operations from Trafalgar to the Falklands was published by ABC-Clio in 2014 and he has recently completed a fourth edition of his Seapower: A Guide for the 21st Century.
Dr. Igor Delanoë
Deputy Head, French-Russian Analytical Center, Observo, Moscow
Dr. Igor Delanoë is Deputy-Head of the French-Russian Analytical Center Observo (Moscow, French-Russian Chamber of Commerce). He holds a PhD in History from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France). After having defended his PhD dissertation (2012), he achieved a post-doctoral fellowship at the Black Sea Security Program (John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University) in 2013. In 2014, he worked as a History Lecturer at the French University College of St Petersburg (University Paris 1 – St Petersburg State University) before joining the Analytical Center Observo in Moscow in 2015 as Deputy-Head.
His primary areas of research interest concern Russian defense and foreign policy issues, Russia’s interests in the Mediterranean and in the Middle East, as well as the geopolitics of the Black Sea region. He is a Research Associate at the Center for International and European Studies (Kadir Has University, Istanbul) and at the University Côte d’Azur (Center for Modern and Contemporary Mediterranean Studies; Center for International and European Law). He was a consultant for the French ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, for DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, and for the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue (Geneva). He is an invited speaker at the NATO Defense College (Rome).
Dr. Michael Petersen
Director, Russian Maritime Studies Institute
Associate Professor, United States Naval War College
Michael Petersen is the Director of the Russia Maritime Studies Institute and an Associate Professor at the United States Naval War College. His work focuses on Russian naval operations and strategy, as well as net assessments of high-intensity maritime conflict. Prior to his appointment, he served with the Defense Intelligence Agency and National Security Council. He is also the author of Missiles for the Fatherland: Peenemuende, National Socialism, and the V-2 Missile (Cambridge University Press, 2009, 2011) as well as articles, essays, and book chapters on military intelligence and strategic weapons history. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Maryland, College Park.
