Abstract: In partnership with Chatham House, RSI presents the first of a 3 part expert level briefing series: "Russia's Quest for Global Influence." Moscow’s sudden shift in approach to gathering influence and economic power worldwide has surprised policy and analytical communities that viewed Russia’s ambitions for power projection as primarily in its former satellite states and the Middle East. Russian involvement in Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific is not new, and Moscow has supported the restoration of Russian presence and influence in these regions for almost a decade. However, the last three years have seen distinct changes in both Russia’s objectives and methods. This event will seek to identify the driving factors behind Russia’s attempts to develop global influence beyond Eurasia, evaluate Russian malign activity in Latin America, and examine the implications for the interests of the U.S. and its allies.
