The next Mad Scientist event will focus on the Human Dimension and what technologies will enable soldiers to operate in the future OE. Recruiting and training soldiers to operate in the context of manned/unmanned teaming, autonomous systems, instantaneous communications, and super-fast feedback loops present multiple challenges. These are addressed in a recent document released by the National Research Council of the National Academies titled
"Measuring Human Capabilities: An Agenda for Basic Research on the Assessment of Individual and Group Performance" which focuses on how to assess the performance of individuals and teams.
The document covers topics on how individuals learn which focuses on memory, impulse control, and cognitive biases; how teams operate with a focus on selecting team members; and other topics such as performance under stress; adaptability and inventiveness; and psychometrics and testing tools.
