Entry Guidelines

Deadline: February 15, 2017 – no entry fee

One Overall Winning Submission Receives:

Publication:
Papers chosen by panel will be published in: Army Press, Small Wars Journal
Our intent: to publish exceptional material

Basic guidelines:
  • Co-writers are allowed. Only one writer needs to submit.
  • Focused on Sci-Fi writing
  • Electronic submissions only
  • Word doc preferred in .doc, .docx, will accept PDF
  • Short story- 8 page limit
  • 12 point font, single spaced, 8.5x11 page size
  • Must include release form- or story will not be considered
  • USG and DOD must clear writing through PAO
Some general rules:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of competition close
  • The short story entered must not have been previously published
  • No limit on the number of entries.
  • Any written material submitted may be freely used by the Army
  • Criteria is based primarily on the overall quality of the short story, including storytelling ability, based in 2030-2050. Concept marketability and originality are also taken into consideration. Best piece of advice we can give all writers is to submit material that highlights your unique voice–what separates you and your short story from the pack.
