Greetings from the U.S. Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (Detroit Arsenal)!
I invented a concept that involves repurposing scrap SUV auto bodies into temporary refuge shelters at NO COST to the recipient/organization, due to patriotic donors and a nation-wide network of fabrication students/sponsors. I envision shelter use by the VA, FEMA, Red Cross, etc., as they have already expressed GREAT interest (potential GOV funding pending). Some colleges are already on board to experiment with converting one shelter/semester as part of a pilot curriculum. Also, I already have a functioning prototype - see images below. What started out as cross-agency collaboration on a research paper has turned into the resemblance of a revolution in matching needs with American patriotism. At this point of the research, I am looking to get the word out to reach community leaders and potential partners for experimentation and discussion of possibilities. Feel free to pass along and/or contact me, if interested in collaborating. Regards, Dr. Garett Scott Patria U.S. Army - Combat Capabilities Development Command, Ground Vehicle Systems Center, CAD Projects Detroit Arsenal 6501 East Eleven Mile Rd.
