Pakistan: Lashkar-e-Taiba Jul12
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Lashkar-e-Taiba is a militant Islamist group based in Pakistan and Kashmir, and operates primarily in Southern Asia.
Lashkar-e-Taiba is related to and nearly indistinguishable from two other Islamist organizations: Markaz Dawa ul-Irshad and Jamaat-ud-Dawa.
The group is responsible for several major attacks in the region, including the three-day-long attacks in Mumbai, India in 2008.
Lashkar-e-Taiba pioneered fidayeen attacks, in which a small group assaults a target with the expectation of being killed.
The group is global in scope and has links to other global terror organizations, specifically al-Qaeda and Jaish-e-Muhammad, and also has ties to the Pakistani military and Inter-Services Intelligence agency.
