OEE Red Diamond JUL14

This issue of Red Diamond begins with a detailed description of JMRC’s recent DATEbased rotation. The article describes how during Rotation 14-04 (Combined Resolve II: The Integrated Attack), units replicated the hybrid threat using DATE actors and conditions. Later in this issue is an article that shares the status of CTID’s work to populate the Join Training Data Services (JTDS) with a menu of threat units that can be task organized and tailored to support live, virtual, and constructive training venues. Analysts are currently entering information to comprise the Threat Force Structure from FM 7-100.4, Opposing Force Organization Guide. The prolific use of social media by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) [also commonly known as ISIS] is a critical information warfare (INFOWAR) issue. Common and widely used websites such as Facebook and Twitter are easily manipulated by threat groups to gain influence over millions of people. Other articles of interest are a description of Kyrgyzstan’s military and threat actors within that operational environment (OE), and a review of the Dingo 2 All-Protected Vehicle (APV) produced by Germany. The Dingo 2 APV will be part of the update to the Worldwide Equipment Guide (WEG) due out this winter. The final article for this month provides information about the prolific Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and its vulnerabilities. Potential UAS weaknesses are discussed through the lenses of accident rates, INFOWAR, air defense, and use at the CTCs.
