Wow - what a terrific planning conference we had in Kampala! Our Ugandan hosts really impressed me with their attention to conference detail, the professionalism of their military forces, and their friendly, open and honest people. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to spend some face-to-face quality time with attendees from Burundi, Uganda, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Sierra Leone and The Gambia among others. Working issues of peace and security on such a large continent can be intimidating and difficult when accomplished from a distance, but these sessions really help to open up lines of communications that we otherwise would not have. Thanks again to Uganda for hosting the conference, and to Britt Talbert and his staff for the terrific organization.
