Nano U.S. Flag: This is an atomic scale image of newly discovered Mo6Te6 nanowires created from parent MoTe2 2D layers, pseudo-colored to resemble the U.S. national flag. Each Mo6Te6 nanowire, 0.8 nanometers in diameter, consists of six molybdenum (Mo) atoms surrounded by six tellurium (Te) atoms. This phase transition was captured during an in-situ heating experiment at 450°C in a scanning transmission electron microscope. Behold, the world’s smallest U.S. national flag! | Contributors: Moon J. Kim, Qingxiao Wang, Aaron Klick
