Supersonic Blooming: Impact force of a supersonic projectile. The research was conducted to study dynamic behavior of materials under extreme conditions. Projectile here is an aluminum foil with 25 μm of thickness and diameter of 500 μm launched with a laser pulse. The velocity of the projectile just before the impact was 4 km/s. The impacted area is the surface of a Pyrex glass.
