As part of the US Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) G2:
GCKN achieves these missions through the following mutually supportive Lines of Effort (LOE):
LOE 1: OE Subject Matter Expert (SME) Network
LOE 2: Production and Services
LOE 3: Analytic Innovation
Line of Effort 1
OE SME Network
GCKN identifies, vets, recruits and collaborates with regional and functional SMEs who are capable and willing to help the U.S. Army better understand the human aspects of current and potential operational environments.
Line of Effort 2
Production and Services
GCKN seeks to provide products and services, infused with social science principles, to both the Institutional and Operational Forces of the US Army. GCKN augments current US Army analytical processes and enables a holistic understanding of both the regional and functional aspects of the operational environment.
Fault Lines Series (FLS): Develops explanations and implications for instability in the operational environment. Additionally, we test our assumptions with subject matter experts to produce a risk assessment.
Cultural Mapping Series (CMS): Provides a layered analysis of an operational environment along with a narrative describing the socio-cultural implications of emergent spatial patterns.
SME-Crowdsourced Requests for Information (RFIs): GCKN can query its SME Network to provide insight on topics of interest to units and organizations concerning specified OEs.
Exercise Support: GCKN can provide socio-cultural expertise, knowledge, and products to enhance understanding of operationally relevant human aspects of exercise OEs.
Analysis Support: GCKN can deliver methods and tools to enhance the analytic capability of units and organizations.
OE Starter Kits: GCKN can create online resources that enable analysis for specified OEs by identifying experts (through the SME Network), significant products, and resources.
Line of Effort 3
GCKN develops, tests, and delivers innovations grounded in social science research by exploring tools, methods, and information platforms to augment OE analysis and understanding.
GCKN OE Methodology: Adapts Grounded Theory, creating a systematic, defensible and rigorous methodology that collaboratively generates hypotheses from multiple source data and tests those assumptions with subject matter experts in order to produce evaluations and operational implications.
Cultural Mapping Analysis: Represents a visual spatial approach that layers significant demographics in an OE and further analyzes the relationship of the layers in order to create an understanding of the OE that might be otherwise missed or misunderstood by single variable analysis.
