COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information

Here are things you can do to prepare if it happens.

What you Need to Know

The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is a new virus that originated in China in December 2019 that can cause respiratory illness in humans. While there are currently limited cases in Afghanistan, illnesses range from mild symptoms to severe. The most common symptoms include the following and are similar to the common cold and flu:

  • Fever
  • Dry Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Sputum Production (thick mucus coughed up from the lungs)

Most people infected with COVID-19 have mild disease and recover.

If You Develop Symptoms

If you have symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath, please contact your local Medical Center before visiting the facility for further instruction.

Prevention & Treatment

Follow these steps to help prevent spread of any respiratory illness

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water—Alcohol based hand cleaners work too
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze—throw it away immediately after you use it
  • Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve if you don’t have a tissue
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick (use the 3’ rule—stay at least 3 feet away from people who are sick)
  • Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth—Germs often spread this way
