Since the announcement of APAN sunset, APAN users have been searching for alternatives for unclassified information sharing for DoD and all partners. One such possible alternative is PiX, however, the overlap of services between these two programs deserves some focused attention. The key differences are these:

  • The PiX team includes content creators and curators who create map-based products for users by request. APAN does not create content for users.
  • PiX users must have a US government provided email address. Users like US Partners without a US government address must gain access through a sponsored account which is reviewed annually.
  • PiX provides very limited file sharing features compared to APAN. One document library per community is allowed with no folders for organizing files.

APAN features more robust information sharing tools for users to share their own data. Take a moment to review the attached slides below to get a clear understanding of the different services provided by APAN and PiX.
