Aloha and Hau'oli Makahiki Hou, (Happy New Year)
The APAN Staff has been actively working on transitioning the APAN environments into the Amazon Web Services Cloud infrastructure. We are on schedule to make this happen within the next six months. The transition of APAN into the cloud will be transparent to our users.
Although transition of APAN operations to a cloud infrastructure will not impact users or current APAN support to humanitarian crisis response, exercises, events or working groups IF you have an important event or business meeting / mission that you would like my staff to be aware between the period January to July 2018, please send the information to our help desk at support@apan-info.net or comment on this announcement. This information will provide us visibility and awareness of events that we should keep track of just in case we need to conduct unschedule platform maintenance or updating in preparation to transitioning to a cloud environment.
We are looking forward to this transition and the possibilities for future growth and support to our valued customers. Thank you for you consideration
APAN Staff
AWS is a great tool that utilizes many useful software platforms very efficiently. As a software engineer, a few of them are boto3 tools and software toolkits that make uploading files to AWS cloud servers a snap! :)
I would like to be a Zoom Product Evaluator for Air University. Thanks.
@Jerry Giles, I don't know if our group would qualify to be evaluators of Zoom, but we would be interested. Please keep us in mind.
One of the benefits of moving to a cloud infrastructure is to manage our computing assets and storage, load balances as quickly as needed (plus we own the OS now instead of putting in a ticket to DISA every time we need something changed). So I do expect more resposiveness from our applications. Additionally as far as Adobe Connect is concerned we have purchased some licenses and are evaluating ZOOM products as possible replacement for Adobe, but this has been put in back burner until after cloud transition. Let me know if you would like to be one of the ZOOM product evaluators.
Cheers
JG
Also a small fish, but is it likely that this move to a cloud infrastructure will improve the Adobe Connect experience for users?
Coming soon, www.amazon.mil
@jerry Giles, what contracting mechanism did you use to get the Amazon service? Could you please pm me?
@Stan - yes, Amazon has been cleared by DISA for classified information. So has Azure cloud. This is a great thing, and with Amazon's legendary up-time and ability to flex processing power when needed, we'll hopefully see an increase in APANs stability and speed.
Glad to see APAN modernizing!
Is this in AWS GovCloud IL 4? There seems to be lots of FOUO on here and exercise related stuff on here. Just a thought from another cloud architect.
I'm somewhat concerned about the idea of having a private for-profit business become the single entity in charge of APAN web services (ie; facebook data breaches, IRS data breach, etc). Was this handled by DISA? What's the reason behind the use of AMAZON? It seems more prudent to have a US govt not-for-profit entity with HA/DR awareness as a primary source for web hosting / data storage / etc. Since I'm not 100% on top of all things APAN I may have some holes in my questions / reasoning and stand to be corrected : )
Exciting getting membership activated
David,
We currently don't have plans to move away from Adobe Connect and we are in the process of renewing the Adobe Connect licenses for another year (Feb 2018 to Feb 2019) FYI
Thanks

I'm a small fish in APAN. Biggest worry is Adobe Connect going away and/or not being replaced my something just as good.
