2022 Energy Consequences of Information Workshop
February 16-18, 2022

Purpose of Meeting:
DoD and DoE will be holding a joint workshop on Energy Consequences of Information, February 16-18, 2022. We expect 100-125 participants from government, industry, and academia for the purposes of:
● Understanding the state-of-the-art in energy optimization and utilization for information
processing, including computation, storage, and transfer, within platforms ranging from
mobile devices to data centers and supercomputing centers
● Surveying current technologies and articulating areas requiring research, development, and
collaboration
● Leveraging community expertise in emerging technology to brainstorm new research
pathways
● Developing a rational roadmap for fundamental research and technology development
● Discussing the potential roles of government, industry, and academia

Challenges in energy consumption in computation span scales from mobile devices, through
satellites and military vehicles, to data- and high-performance computing centers. We hope this
workshop will facilitate cross-pollination across these technologies
