 Name Description  Typical Uses
 Blog Short name for weblog.  Locations where one or more authors can write commentary on a topic or area of expertise.  Readers of the content can typically comments on it. Personal commentary, description of newsworthy or interesting events, SITREPS, etc.
 Calendar Adding, listing, registering and confirming community events. Referencing or scheduling community events.
 Ideas/Challenge COMING SOON!  Means of creating, voting on, and triaging ideas and solutions. Crowd=sourcing ideas, solutions, collaboration to issues, hot-topics, etc.
 Forum Discussion and/or question and answer areas with thread starters and replies.  Answers to questions can be suggested or verified. Discussions or Q&A among group members; bug reporting; FAQs
 Media Gallery

Collections of files available for download.  Viewers of the content can typically comment on it.  Includes the ability to add customized files and folders.

Image gallery, video demos, presentations, reporting spreadsheets, etc.
 Wiki Editable pages of content.  Revision history is captured and comparisons can be made between revisions.  Content can often be commented upon. Help documentation, specifications, instruction, and other less temporal or non-temporal content.
 SP: Document Library Displays a list of files in a structured format. Picture, video, presentations, reporting spreadsheets, etc.
 SP: List Provides a location to collect data in the form of a simple database or spreadsheet.  Data is gathered in rows and columns that is easily sortable and customizable

 

Other Functionality in Groups

 

 Name Description Usage
 Tags  Tags assist users to organize and locate content.  When a user clicks a tag, he/she can easily locate all content using the same tag.  Encourage your team members to tag all content.  You may wish to predefine what tags that will be utilized for ease of use, exercise, etc. Easy search for content, organization through metadata
 Moderation & Abuse  Sometimes it may be important to moderate posts, comments, or feedback for content related purposes or level of importance.  If a community is public facing, you may need the ability to remove potential unnecessary content.

Moderation: The need to approve content prior to the content being released to the community; Abuse: need to remove harmful content
