Using Links in Wiki Pages

[toc]

The Telligent Platform uses both wiki link syntax and the enhanced text editor to create links.

Wiki Link Syntax

You can use wiki link syntax to create a page, link to an existing page in the same wiki, or link to another wiki. The text can show the wiki page title or something different. You can also link to internal and external URLs.

Create a new page using wiki link syntax

This feature gives you the advantage of laying out additional wiki pages ("stubbing out pages") while you are composing the text in your current wiki.

  1. In the wiki, create a new document or edit an existing one.
  2. In the edit page, you can create a new document which is a child of the current one by creating a link to the new document.
    1. As an example, type:
  3. Click Save. The page is saved, and the link you just typed appears in red.
  4. Click the red link. The new page opens (but is not saved until you save it).

Link to an existing page in the same wiki using wiki link syntax

You can create a link that displays the linked page title, or displays different text.

Create a link that shows the title as the link text

  1. In the wiki, create a new document or edit an existing one.
  2. In the edit page, type the existing page's name in doubled square brackets:
    1. As an example, type:
  3. Click Save. The page is saved, and the link you just typed appears in blue. When you click the link, the other page displays.

Create a link that shows different text as the link text

  1. In the wiki, create a new document or edit an existing one.
  2. In the edit page, type the existing page's name in doubled square brackets, followed by a pipe, then the text you want to appear on the link:
    1. As an example, type:
  3. Click Save. The page is saved, and the link text appears in blue ("dog color"). However when you click the link, the correct page ("What is the most common color of dog?") appears.

Link to a heading in another wiki page using the text editor link button

You can link directly to a desired heading (section title) in a page in the same wiki or another wiki.

  1. Copy the link to the desired heading in the desired page's link. For example, you can copy the page's hyperlink from the wiki's table of contents and then add a pound sign and the anchor text for the heading
  2. Type some text.

  6. Click Ok. The link text turns blue. When you click it, you are taken to that heading on that page.
