Start a Discussion or Ask a Question

Start a discussion or question on a group page 

To create a forum post from a group home page:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate group.
  2. Click New. The option drop-down list appears. If there are multiple forums in the group, you can choose which to post to.
  3. Click Ask a question or Start a discussion in <forum>; Start a discussion, or Ask a question. The Post window appears.
  4. In the post type selection (if a selection is available), choose either Question or Discussion. 
  5. Subject - Type your discussion subject or question.
  6. Description - Enter and format your post, including any needed media files, with the enhanced text editor.
  7. Tags - Type the desired tags into the Tags field with commas and no spaces, like: cat, dog, pony.
  8. Notify me when someone replies to this post - Check this selection if you want to receive email notifications of responses.
  9. Lock - Select this option if you want to keep readers from responding.
  10. Prioritize at the top of lists - This feature is similar to posts appearing as sticky in the forum.
    1. Not prioritized - The post appears in the order it was saved.
    2. <number> days - The post appears at the top of the post list for the specified number of days.
    3. Forever - The post is always at the top of the post list.
  11. Click Post.

Start a discussion from a forum (application) page

To create a discussion post from a forum (application) home page:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate group and forum.
  2. Click New. 
  3. Click Start a discussion (if you have a choice between discussion or question). The post window appears.
  4. In the Subject field, type a discussion subject.
  5. In the Description field, type information pertinent to the subject. 
  6. In the Tags field, enter any related tags.
  7. For the Notify me when someone replies to this post check box, select if you want to be notified of any replies via email.
  8. For the Lock (disable replying) check box, you might choose to edit the post and select this check box to disable any further replies.
  9. In the Prioritize at the top of list drop-down list, you can select Not prioritized or select a period to make the post sticky.
  10. Click Post.

Ask a question from a forum (application) page

To create a question post from a forum (application) home page:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate group and forum.
  2. Click New. 
  3. Click Add a question (if you have a choice between question and discussion). The post window appears.
  4. In the Subject field, type a question subject.
  5. In the Description field, type information pertinent to the subject. 
  6. In the Tags field, enter any related tags.
  7. For the Notify me when someone replies to this post check box, select if you want to be notified of any replies via email.
  8. For the Lock (disable replying) check box, you might choose to edit the post and select this check box to disable any further replies.
  9. In the Prioritize at the top of list drop-down list, you can select Not prioritized or select a period to make the post sticky.
  10. Click Post.
