  2. If that does not work, click forgot username when logging in - https://passport.apan.org/home/forgotusername?
  3. You will be prompted to enter the email address you used during the APAN registration process.

APAN usernames cannot be changed.  You'll need to create another account if you want to change your username.

Password Requirements

What are tips for creating a strong APAN Password?

Tips For Creating A Strong Password

  • Create a password that is secure, but still easy for you to remember.
  • The longer and more complex your password, the harder it will be to guess. Place numbers and punctuation randomly in your password.
  • After creating your password, protect it. Don't share your password with others.
  • Avoid using the same password for your other online accounts, such as email, bank, or social networking accounts.
  • Don't use personal information that others can easily obtain or guess such as your name, your spouse's name, your pet's name, birthdays, or address.
  • Don't use dictionary words in any language.

What are APAN Password requirements?

  • 1 upper-case letter
  • 1 lower-case letter

Security Image

A security image protects your APAN account.  You should see your security image every time you log in.  This helps you know that it’s really APAN and not a fraudulent, look-alike site.  To avoid password phishing, only enter your password if the image is the same as the one you selected.

I don't recognize my security image, what should I do?

Do not login.  Contact APAN Support for immediate assistance.

How do I change my security image?

To change your security image:

  1. Log into APAN.
  2. Select your avatar in the top, right of the main APAN page.
  3. Select My Account.
  4. Next to your current security image, select Edit.
  5. Select a new security image and click Save.
  6. Your security image will update.
  7. To confirm, log out and log back in.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your APAN account.  When enabled, you will be required to enter an authentication code in addition to your username and password when you sign in.  The code is sent to your preferred email address when you sign in from an unknown location.

How do I turn on/off two-factor authorization?

  1. Click your avatar, a drop down will appear.
  2. Click My account.
  3. Toggle Two-Factor Authentication to on/off.

Phishing

Phishing phone calls, email messages and websites attempt to steal information by collecting your username, password or other personal identifiable information pretending to be trustworthy and legitimate.  Phishing is usually carried out by email-spoofing or instant messaging and often directs users to click on a link and enter personal information.

I think I may have received a phishing email, what should I look for?

APAN will not send emails asking you to update information.  Treat all unsolicited emails with skepticism.

Links: If you see a link in an email message, do not click it.  Without clicking on the link, confirm the URL at the lower left of your screen by hovering over the link with your cursor.  Does the URL in the link match the URL address when you hover over it?  If not, contact APAN Support.

Threats:  At no time will APAN close your account if you do not respond to an email message.  Do not click on any links, confirm the URL as mentioned above.  If you receive an email like this, contact APAN Support.

Spoofing:  Graphics or links in email that appear to be connected to legitimate websites but actually take you to phony sites or pop-up windows will not use APAN URLs.  Do not click any link, confirm the URL as mentioned above and contact APAN Support.

Spear Phishing

Spear Phishing is a type of phishing attack that focuses on single user or department within an organization, with the appearance of being addressed from someone within the company in a position of trust and requesting information such as login IDs and passwords.

I think I may have received a spear phishing email, what should I do?

At no time will APAN request this information.  If you receive information similar, please confirm with your group/site owner and contact APAN Support for further assistance.
