Group Navigation

The easiest way to get around APAN is to remember key buttons and links.

Search

Search enhances your experience with smart queries and relevant suggested results.

Search Features

  • Search is always available on the page. The Social theme has a static header that keeps the search field visible wherever you scroll on a page.
  • Search automatically returns results for the context where it's being used.
    • For example:
      • While searching in a specific group, the header will say Search in [group name].
      • While searching in a group's application, it will say Search in [group name] with the corresponding application.
  • Searching in a forum will return similar forum threads as the query is typed - in order to save you from needlessly posting a similar thread.
  • Search quality is improved by filter buttons - Contents, Groups, or People.
    • If being used in a group or application, Search will also display an Anywhere filter button.
  • Enhanced search results display - if the user clicks Advanced Search in the search field, APAN furnishes additional parameters for relevancy, content type, location, author, or by recent content.
  • Searching by people is can be done as well at the APAN main community level.

Preset filters for results

When you type a term into the search field, APAN displays the search results along with the filter buttons.  These include the current context, such as a group name, Groups/Sites, and People buttons.  Clicking any of these buttons will narrow the results of the search only to that filter. 

You can search for items within Verint Groups by selecting to search within that COI or Anywhere.

Advanced Search Result Display

When you type search terms into the search field and press Enter, the results are displayed with the Advanced Search Options. 

  • Relevancy - Most relevant, most recent alphabetical and highest rating.
  • Content type - Blogs, comments, users, wikis, forums, files, groups and statuses.
  • Location - Anywhere or group names.
  • Author - Usernames
  • Recent - Any time, in the past week, in the past month, in the past year.

Wildcard search for users and groups

APAN supports performing wildcard searches using question (?) or (&) for people and groups.

Searching for multiple terms

  • If you want to search for multiple instances of a #hashtag, @mention, or textual references, you can simply type them into the search field.
  • Typing a #hashtag term or @mention term (for example, #Bryce, @janeadams) into the search field will yield all results that contain those two terms.  You cannot get a list of all tags by typing # into the search field.  Instead, use the tag cloud widget.
  • Just typing two textual words into the search field will yield results containing those references or #hashtag references (for example, typing #Honolulu Hawaii).

Search for Verint Groups or SharePoint Sites

There are a couple of ways to search for a group. 

How do I search for a Verint Group?

In the main APAN header, you'll see an icon that resembles a hamburger, or has 3 horizontal lines.  When this icon is clicked, a drop down will appear.

The drop down lists only Verint groups and classifies groups into the following categories:

  • HADR, Conferences, Exercises, Workgroups

  • AFRICOM, CENTCOM, SOUTHCOM, SOCOM

How do I search for a Verint Group I'm a member of?

An easy way to access your groups:

  1. Click your avatar.
  2. Your profile will appear.
  3. Click Groups in the top tabs.

How do I search for a SharePoint Site?

At this time we do not have a search mechanism in place for Sites.  Contact the Site owner for their SharePoint URL.

How do I search for a Site I'm a member of?

An easy way to access your SharePoint Sites:

  1. Click your avatar.
  2. Your profile will appear.
  3. Click Sites in the top tabs.

Search for Colleagues

Colleagues can be found using your Group's activity feed or the search functionality.

To review colleagues, go to your APAN Profile.  For more information, see the colleagues section within Group Basics.

Search for Content

Content may be searched for within your Group's activity feed or the search functionality as mentioned above.

Within the URL, you will also see common denominators specific to the type of content.  This is helpful for future reference to know if the content is within a group's blog or wiki for example.
