Connections between community members

Within APAN's Verint Groups you connect between other community members.  Some of the ways that you can connect are through the following:

  • Private messages - Members can send private messages via email, activity stream, or profile.
  • Following - Members can track others' activities without requesting friendship.
  • Friendship - Members designate others in the community as friends. Friends have multiple capabilities with each other, such as private messaging and chat. By default, the friend relationship also includes following, but you can unfollow a friend to stop activity updates.
  • Status messages - Members create brief messages or in the activity stream on their dashboards (or site or group home pages) to communicate activities, ideas, reactions, or status message replies.

Following members with or without requesting to be colleagues

When you follow a community member, your goal is to get notifications of their activities, rather than messaging. You can follow a user from their user profile by clicking "Follow" on the hover-over of their avatar.

With this feature:

  • You keep track of their activities.
  • The followee is notified when you follow them. This notification is separate from being a colleague. (For example if you discontinue to be colleagues but do follow, they will receive the notification of the follow.)
  • The following relationship ("x is now following y") is not shown in any Activity Story Stream (site, group, or user).
  • Following doesn't contain an option for private messages. (However with the chat feature installed, you can still private message any member of the community.)
  • Followers only see a followee's publicly visible actions - like with Twitter.
  • One member can't prevent another community member from following them.

Follow a user without being a colleague

  1. From the activity stream, content, comment, status message, hover over the user's avatar or navigate to the user's profile.
  2. Click Follow.

Follow a user and request to be a colleague

  1. From the activity stream, content, comment, status message, or profile, hover over the user's avatar.
  2. Click Request to follow colleague.
When you are a colleague with another user, following that user is automatic.

Stop following a user

  1. From the activity stream, content, comment, status message, or profile, hover over the user's avatar.
  2. Click Unfollow.
