Visits to the AOARD office are welcome, but are not required or guaranteed to receive funding. A visit to AOARD does provide the investigator a chance to meet with several POs (if available) to highlight their research and to discuss funding opportunities for specific ideas. The PI is usually asked to give an overview presentation of their research and present ideas for a potential white paper. The meeting usually lasts for 60-90 minutes. An electronic version of the slides and handouts is requested.
Should an investigator be near Tokyo in Japan and wish to visit AOARD, the office is located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, near Roppongi and is convenient to 3 subway lines (Nogizaka Station – Chiyoda Line; Roppongi Station – Oedo Line; Roppongi Station – Hibiya Line). To schedule a visit, send an e-mail to our office address: afosr.aoard@us.af.mil or to an identified PO at the contact address shown at this site. This will initiate an exchange with the PO who will arrange the date for the visit, provide an access form (to be completed and returned ahead of time to gain access to AOARD), and also send maps from the train stations to our office. On meeting day, arrive at the front gate about 15-20 minutes before the scheduled meeting time. At the gate, call +81-3-5410-4409 and someone will come down to get you; our staff will know you are coming. You must have your passport to gain access to our facility.
