Through its Conference Support Program, AOARD provides funding to support basic research workshops and conferences across the Asia-Pacific region in technical areas of interest to AFOSR and AFRL. Researchers may send an inquiry e-mail to afosr.aoard@us.af.mil or directly to the PO in their subject area to determine the level of interest in the technical area of the conference/workshop. A PO will request a short Conference Support Proposal (CSP) that follows a specific format. AOARD PIs or others can compete for this type of funding. SAM Registration is required to receive funding (more information).
For many CSPs, the PO may make a co-funding request of Army and Navy colleagues to determine whether they will be able to provide additional support. Because of differences in budget cycles between organizations, additional support may or may not be available at the time of the request.
Funds provided by AFOSR/AOARD are limited to paying for certain expenses, and are controlled by regulations that change frequently. Make sure to discuss current limitations of using CSP funds with the PO. Once the terms of how the funds may be used are understood, the PI should acknowledge that AOARD funding will be used appropriately as referenced in a communication from the PO.
Budgets are limited so a competitive process is used to down-select and fund the best proposals. Notification of funding at a specific level noted does not guarantee funding; official notification will come from the AOARD Contracting Officer.
