400: Widgets

[toc]

What is a widget?

Widgets are designed to be reusable functionality within various Group Pages.  Adding or removing widgets help you control the user experience.  As a Group Owner, you can specify what widgets are available within your community.  Many widgets within the Telligent application are contextual.  This means the widget may only work on certain pages.  For example, some blog widgets will only work on a blog page and so on.  Within the specific widget descriptions in the Widget articles, this is defined for you.

Only Group Owners can customize, add, configure or delete widgets.

Adding and Configuring Widgets

Choose a Widget

  1. In the Edit Page panel, click Widgets. The widget list appears.
  2. Locate the desired widget. You can either start typing the widget name in the "Find a widget" search field, or scroll down through the list of widgets.
  3. Drag the widget to the desired location. As you drag, the regions where you can place the widget are outlined.
  4. Drop the widget where desired. It is not placed until you see the widget in one of the regions.

Format the Widget

  1. Click in the widget menu bar. The widget editing options appear.
  2. Click Format. The widget formatting options appear:
    1. No border with no spacing - No border appears around the widget; the spacing is less than with spacing, and the widget title is not displayed.
    2. No border with spacing - No border appears around the widget, however there is more spacing than with the "no spacing" option.
    3. No border with spacing and header - No border appears around the widget, however there is a larger amount of spacing, and the widget title appears.
    4. Top border - Only a top border appears on the widget. There is less spacing than the "with spacing" options.
  3. Choose the desired option. You can try multiple options. The one you select last (and leave) is the one that will be applied.

Choose the Responsive Behavior

  1. Click the widget menu bar. The widget editing options appear, which have to do with how the widget appears on single column layout such as on mobile devices.
  2. Click Responsive behavior. The responsive behavior optionsappear:
    1. Always shown, Priority 1 in single column mode - This widget will appear before priority 2 and 3 widgets.
    2. Always shown, Priority 2 in single column mode - This widget will appear after priority 1 and before priority 3 widgets.
    3. Always shown, Priority 3 in single column mode - This widget will appear after priority 1 and 2 widgets.
    4. Only shown in single column mode - This widget displays, in single column mode, where you place it. It could displace any or the priority widgets in position.
    5. Hidden in single column mode - This widget is not displayed in single column mode.

Configure the widget

Click Configure. The configuration window appears. Configuration options vary by widget. Please see the article per the specific widget you are using for further assistance.
