400: Widgets

[toc]

What is a widget?

Widgets are designed to be reusable functionality within various Group Pages.  Adding or removing widgets help you control the user experience.  As a Group Owner, you can specify what widgets are available within your community.  Many widgets within the Telligent application are contextual.  This means the widget may only work on certain pages.  For example, some blog widgets will only work on a blog page and so on.  Within the specific widget descriptions in the Widget articles, this is defined for you.

Add a Widget to a Page

The widgets you can add to a page depend upon the context where they're enabled.

To add a widget to a page body, header, or footer:

  1. Click Edit page in the upper-right corner of the page. The Edit Page mode window appears, revealing options to change layout, add or remove widgets, and save page.
  2. Search for the widget by name in the search bar.
  3. Drag the desired widget to the location on the page.
  4. Choose your saving option. Once the change is saved, the widget becomes visible on the page. (Note that the exception is if there is no content for it to display.)

Add a Widget to a Header

Some functionality within the header cannot be edited.

To perform this function, you must be Group Owner, or have permissions to edit a blog as appropriate.

  1. Navigate to the group, or blog home page, and click Modify [x] theme.
  2. Click Edit Page. The editable header area appears.
  3. Click Edit Header. The editable header opens, displaying the widgets.
  4. Drag the desired widget(s) into the header.
  5. After configuring the widget(s), save the configuration.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Click Header. The header is saved.
