Synthetic Biology and Biochemistry

Objective
Synthetic biology is a) the design and construction of new biological parts, devices and systems and b) the re-design of existing natural biological systems for useful purposes.  The Air Force is interested basic research targeted in the areas of biosensors and biosynthesis. 

Within the areas of biosensors and biosynthesis, I am interested in these areas:

  1. new or improved tools for synthetic biology
  2. fundamental research in improving production and understanding the mechanism protein, DNA, RNA or compound production from bacteria, microbe or yeast (or other model organism)
  3. novel methods in synthetic biology  (new genetic switches)
  4. novel materials from cell based processes
