2012 Aerothermodynamics and Turbulence Review

The 2012 Aerothermodynamics & Turbulence portfolio review will be held July 17-19 at the University of Florida REEF (Research and Engineering Education Facility), just outside the gates of Eglin AFB in Shalimar, Florida.

This year we will also welcome as special guests the PIs of the ONR Jet Noise Reduction Basic Research portfolio, which is managed by Brenda Henderson who is on load to ONR from NASA.  It is our intent to coordinate the AFOSR and ONR research investments relevant to Jet Noise Reduction and I anticipate that this will be the first of several joint reviews for the two portfolios.

Our tentative plan is to have the Jet Noise efforts present on Tuesday,  while the remaining Aerothermodynamics & Turbulence efforts will present on Wednesday and Thursday morning.  I would like to dedicate Thursday afternoon to a community-wide discussion of the changing landscape in basic research funding and break-out discussions on future research directions.

There will be no registration fee for the meeting, although you will have the option to pay a have coffee and snacks provided during the breaks.   You can register for the review now at this link:

https://community.apan.org/afosr/p/2012-aerothermodynamics-and-turbulence-review.aspx

You may wish to explore some of the other links available on the registration website, which is hosted on the AFOSR APAN page.  We are very excited about APAN since it is a government developed site that allows us to securely interact with the external community in a variety of ways. Included on the APAN page are links to the interests of the AFOSR core portfolios - including our spring review briefings, and a tab where you can upload a white paper and direct it to any portfolio listed in our BAA.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the REEF and many of you at various meetings before then.

Best,
John
